Welcome

The Kids of Widney High are a group of students from Widney High School, a special ed. high school in Los Angeles, who write and perform original songs. The group started in 1988 as a song writing class and changes as the students come and go from Widney. The students perform in the L.A. area with a band consisting of Vince Licassi-guitar, Judy Rudin-harmonica, Tony Bollas-drums, Spero Anthony-bass, and Michael Monagan-guitar.

“Act Your Age” – The KOWH documentary

March 29th, 2010

You heard right.

ACT YOUR AGE: THE KIDS OF WIDNEY HIGH STORY, the feature-length documentary all about your favorite undergound band, is now completed after nearly ten years of hard labor!

Focusing mainly on the triumphant tour we took from LA to Seattle and back two summers ago, ACT YOUR AGE is one film you can actually look forward to seeing this year!

But, as always, we need YOUR help!

YOU can help us get the word out about ACT YOUR AGE by telling friends, blogging, putting up information about the flick on your MySpace or Facebook, writing an article or two for your local alternative rag, getting on your local radio station, or doing whatever the hell else you can to let people in on the Know.

Check out the official trailer at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrvFTA3DlIs

Forward to friends and colleagues, and make sure to subscribe to our official YouTube site with clips from the tour and never-before-seen footage of the Kids themselves: www.YouTube.com/ProfKlickberg

Finally, as we’re setting up screenings across the country, feel free to contact us about any local venues you might be able to access for a screening of your own of one truly special music documentary!

And stay tuned for screenings coming near you. We’ll keep you updated, and the list is starting to build up fast…!

You’ve heard the music, you’ve seen the shows, now check out the Kids of Widney High in their first official documentary, ACT YOUR AGE: THE KIDS OF WIDNEY HIGH STORY!!

The KOWH Comic is here!!

May 30th, 2009

After months of anticipation, The Kids of Widney High comic “Beyond the Sky’s the Limit” is finally hitting the streets! Written entirely by the members of The Kids of Widney High and illustrated by some of the comic book industry’s top talent, this gorgeous 36 page book is a milestone event in both rock n’ roll history and comic book history!

“This wasn’t some occasion where a celebrity rock band casually said ‘oh, we’d like you to make a comic book,” said editor/publisher Mike Wellman. “The Kids of Widney High were hands on from the very beginning, telling the stories they wanted to tell.” Every word of dialogue in the book was taken from extensive interview sessions with the eight members of the rock band and then compiled into a story of adventure and triumph.

A handful of very talented artists contributed to the book including: Robbi (Maintenance) Rodriguez, Rafael (Sonambulo) Navarro, Rikki (The Monacle and Jimmy Specs) Niehaus, Chuck (Black Metal) B.B., Neal (Negative Burn) Von Flue, Chris (Bainst) Brandt, and cover art by Jim Mahfood.

Available soon at your local comic book store and/or through Diamond Comics distributers!

We hope to have a release party at the Key Club.

With the Kids writing the stories, Tony Whitfield (Widney ’86) has been the motor behind this project with Mike Wellman at Comic Bug (www.atomicbasement.com) as the producer, editor, and generally mr. everything. Vince Licassi has contributed invaluable assistance and Dave Kinnoin (songwizard.com) lent a hand.

Sony PlayStation presents: The Kids of Widney High on Tour!

July 13th, 2008

Yes, that’s right: your favorite indie rock band is about to embark on their first-ever tour up the West Coast.

We will be hitting all the best stops along the way, starting at one of our favorite venues, Mr. T’s Bowl in Los Angeles, and heading up, appropriately enough, on July 4th to Santa Barbara where we will be kick-starting the tour.

After Santa Barbara, it’s off to San Luis Obispo, Salinas and Monterey, San Francisco and Berkeley, Humboldt County (where Peewee is sure to have a smokin’ time), Eugene and Portland, Olympia, and, finally, Seattle!

In addition to playing a very special acoustic set at each venue, we’re also showcasing our films, writings, artwork, and wares from the new clothing line.

And, of course, we also plan on having the best time of our lives, making short films and music videos, meeting new people, seeing new places, and spreading the gospel of the Kids to those who have never before had a chance to see us live.

Any press inquiries, please direct to Jessica Kane at Feinstein/McGuiness PR.

We hope to see you there…!
